Types of Yoga
Nila Yoga offers different types of yoga. All yoga classes at Nila Yoga are suitable for absolute beginners, but also for people with some experience with yoga. The poses are demonstrated and explained clearly during each class. Important to know is that the yoga classes are truly for everyone: regardless of age, physical condition, fitness or experience. You don’t necessarily have to be ‘new-agey’ flexible, slim or fit to participate in yoga classes. Nila Yoga strongly believes in offering yoga classes in an accessible way, so truly everybody can experience the benefits of yoga!
Hatha Yoga
Hatha Yoga is a popular type of yoga with all kinds of poses. Hatha Yoga is suitable for beginners and more advanced yogis. It is one of the oldest forms of yoga and several other types of yoga derived from Hatha Yoga. Hatha Yoga is a(n) (somewhat) active type of yoga. A Hatha Yoga class at Nila Yoga usually consists of some meditation and a warming up at the start of the class, followed by several poses (standing, balancing, seated) and a couple of calm poses and a final relaxation to end the class. A Hatha Yoga class benefits your body and your mind and can help you with balancing issues.
Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is a calm form of yoga, in which you remain in a certain pose for three to five minutes. Yin Yoga is beneficial for your joints and connective tissue. Most poses are seated or lying down and you use breathing techniques to relax more in each pose. You always listen to your own body during class and you are the one who decides how far you want to go. You are not pushing your boundaries during a Yin Yoga class; letting go and surrendering to the pose are the most important things. Yin Yoga works well if you want to destress and relax. It calms the mind and brings you peace and patience. You will also notice your body becoming more flexible and agile.

About
My name is Ester Hekkenberg, I was born in the summer of 1982 in Utrecht. I live in Tilburg; the Netherlands with my partner and our pet chickens. I work as an English teacher at a secondary school four days a week; I teach youngsters in the age of twelve to sixteen years old. I also teach several yoga classes a week at a gym and I teach yoga to international students as well.
People often think that yoga is airy-fairy or new-agey and only for flexible people. My style is different. You don’t have to be flexible or fond of sports. I am a down to earth, no nonsense yoga teacher. It is important for me to create classes that suit any body and anybody, regardless of their fitness or background.
I am a relaxed teacher, but also enthusiastic and if it is suitable, I have always got time for a chat and joke every now and then.
Why I became a yoga teacher
A couple of years ago, I realised that I enjoyed my work as a school teacher, but I didn’t feel like doing that full time for another thirty years. Because I wanted to incorporate the spiritual side in my life, I started with a yoga teacher training. As I have been a school teacher for more than fifteen years, I know the joy teaching can bring me. I love helping people and sharing my knowledge. Because yoga brought me so much, I am really eager to introduce others to the beautiful joy of yoga. And I like it that yoga is not just for perfect people, sports fanatics or muscly persons made of rubber; but really for everyone!
I finished my yoga teacher training at Delight Yoga in 2019. During this training I spent some time on Ashtanga Yoga, but I mostly teach Hatha Yoga and Yin Yoga. In 2021 I did a Yin Yoga teacher training at Yogacollege Tilburg.
I practise different types of yoga myself, but I also enjoy boxing, spinning (indoor cycling), skiing and swimming. Other hobbies are cooking, travelling, playing boardgames, camping and driving my motorbike.
I hope to see you soon during one of my workshops!
Why I enjoy yoga so much
Waarom yoga?
